”Shooting film isn’t easy. Years of trial and error, lost rolls, balancing focus, measuring exposure, keeping your hands still as the shutter opens and closes. Then there’s the anxious wait as your shots are returned - absolutely not for the weak hearted.”

Karl Mackie is a Newquay based creative, designing products, digital media and brand identities for both his own brand, Mackie Studio, and an eclectic set of clients from all corners of the world. He’s also a killer photographer, especially when it comes to shooting film. Karl and I met during summer 2016, and found common ground with a passion for good design.

One afternoon in February, we hooked up for a shoot at the Walters Factory in St Agnes. I shaped, Karl shot, Jeremy glassed. One Kingpin and one Duke later, we’re pleased to publish a collection of images, shot by Karl on black and white 35mm film.

It’s always a pleasure to collaborate with likeminded creative people, especially when the product is as emotive, craft-capturing and expertly developed as this collection. Massive thanks to Karl and Jeremy.
